Major R & D Grants and Projects

Have been responsible for a number of R & D and Technology development projects. Many of these have been funded by the government, the industry or other user organisations. Some have been successfully commercialised. The more significant ones are listed below :

  1. GKS and GKS 3D Software Design and Development : Commercially marketed internationally as Indo-GKS by CMC Ltd of India.
  2. Aalekh and Vividha - Multilingual Text Processing Tools : Commercially marketed in India by Hinditron Ltd, ET&T Ltd and CMC Ltd.
  3. Vinyas and Vidura - Desk Top Publishing Tools : Interactive Font design and Typesetting Software specially for Indian languages and scripts. Sponsored by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi, Department of Culture of the Government of India.
  4. Zeus - Interactive System for Rapid Design of Aircraft Surfaces. Sponsored by the Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore, India.
  5. Artemis - Interactive CAD/CAM System for the layout of composite laminate components used in the aircraft industry. Sponsored by the Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore, India.
  6. Volvis : Non destructive Evaluation of Composite Laminate Components - Uses volume visualisation techniques for "looking" into the inside structure derived from Ultra sonic measurements. Sponsored by the Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore, India.
  7. Automatic Translation, Typesetting and Printing of Bi-lingual Degree Certificates of the University of Bombay (about 45,000 per year). Sponsored by the University of Bombay, India.
  8. Arcturus : An interactive system for laminate architecturing for use in composite laminate component design. Sponsored by the Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore, India.
  9. Surface and Volume Grid Generation for use in CFD Analysis and Other Scientific Visualisation Applications in the aircraft industry. Sponsored by the Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore, India.
  10. Automatic Translation, Typesetting and Production of Film Masters of Hindi Telephone Directory of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd., Mumbai ; the software converted subscriber data in Oracle format of over 1.3 million persons and organisations into Hindi and then reordered and paginated them suitably directly dribving a digital image setter. The total volume was over 6000 pages.
  11. VISPAR : Parallelisation of 3D rendering and visulaisation techniques.A research project funded by the Commission of European Communities (CEC).
  12. 3DR : Direct Volume Rendering for medical Imaging, R & D project being carried out for a Japanese establishment in collaboration with an Indian software house.
  13. VR and Multimedia Software Component Development with applications like Walkthrough of Complex heritage sites and 3D games.
  14. Vidyakaash: Setting up of a National Resource Centre for Online Learning; a project sponsored by the Ministry of Information Technology, India which includes a strong R & D component in education technology development for online learning.
